Driving isn’t always a breeze. This is especially when concerns such as ice and snow, among other environmental factors, are prevalent. You might think that the busy city streets are the most challenging to navigate. However, auto accidents are more common in rural areas. This is primarily due to the narrow roadways. With lesser traffic, how are the rural roads more dangerous than the busy city streets? Here are three dangers you need to keep in mind when driving on narrow roads.

Visibility

What’s your car’s stopping distance? A blind spot requires an effective reaction. Among the dangers of driving on a narrow road is poor visibility, making it harder to spot oncoming traffic. High hedges and blinds bend on narrow roads leave a little window to react. The easiest way to maintain a safe drive is to limit the speed. This ensures that the stopping distance, regardless of the weather and road conditions, is in your favor.

Complacency

I’m used to this road; I know every bend and pothole. Such an attitude could is destructive, especially as caution is thrown out of the window. Narrow rural roads, loaded with overconfident and careless drivers, are an accident’s hotbed. Always be diligent; you can’t tell what’s on the next driver’s mind.

Slippery roads

A slippery narrow road is a perfect recipe for accidents. Narrow roads in a rural area are characterized by mud build-up, especially as tracks and other farm autos use the roads. You spot someone or an animal crossing the road, try to stop, but as the road is slippery, the stopping distance isn’t as you thought. It is that simple; you can’t control the car as much as you would like.

Speeding on a narrow road is a no-brainer. There is no enough room for two cars to pass at such speeds, and before you can make out what’s on the side of the road for an escape, you are already in a collision. Whether you are an experienced driver or a beginner, it is advisable to recognize and keep the risks in mind whenever you are driving on narrow roads.
